Our core offering, the PixMover™ Platform, is a complete, pre-packaged combination of proprietary software and optimized hardware designed to accelerate data transfer in real-time. This turnkey solution integrates the necessary software and dedicated hardware to handle data movement, ensuring peak performance and predictable results for even the largest, multi-petabyte datasets.
At the heart of the platform is our patented, mathematically lossless image compression technology, known as Bit Exact Round Trip™. This process is a breakthrough in high-integrity data handling.
Our Journey of Innovation
PixSpan Data’s history is rooted in a commitment to solving the most challenging issues in high-speed, high-integrity data transfer.
The Foundations (2010 – 2018)
The journey began in 2010 when Michael Rowny, an M.I.T. graduate and former President and CEO of MCI’s International Operations, founded Pixspan. Recognizing the looming bottlenecks in 2K and 4K imaging workflows, the company focused its initial R&D on creating a solution that could handle increasing data density without compromising quality.
This deep technical work culminated in 2016 with the awarding of the foundational patent for Bit Exact Round Trip™, which validated the company’s unique spatial-domain processing approach.
By 2018, Pixspan achieved a major performance breakthrough by partnering with NVIDIA technology. By integrating its algorithms with high-powered GPUs (utilizing CUDA cores), the company delivered the first solution capable of processing full-resolution cinema formats in real-time. This era also saw the technology validated by industry giants like Technicolor, Deluxe, and NHK, and directly integrated into creative tools like Autodesk Flame.
Acceleration and Acquisition (2021 – Present)
As cloud workflows became essential, Pixspan expanded its reach. In 2021, the company was granted a key patent for accelerated cloud data transfers, enabling optimized transport speed and cost across multiple network and clouds without the typical egress cost penalties.
The company reached a pivotal milestone in 2023 when ALT Systems, Inc., a respected leader in media and technology solutions, acquired the intellectual property from Pixspan, Inc. This strategic acquisition formed PixSpan Data, Inc. and integrated the technology into the PixMover Platform—a robust, turnkey hardware and software solution designed to support Media Migration as a Service (MaaS).
Since the acquisition, PixSpan Data has continued to upgrade the platform, offering customers a simple, powerful tool for managing massive data loads with confidence.
